From the Founder

Hi! I'm Hildy Essex, the founder and creator of Octavia.

I've spent over 25 years in music education, always balancing my love of teaching with a passion for technology.

Along the way, I've built tools for schools to manage student lists and ensembles, and I believe that if software needs an instruction manual, the interface isn't doing its job.*

I'm a full-time music teacher, which means I'm building Octavia with the everyday needs of teachers and students front of mind. I'll be using it, so it needs to do the job right.

Before focusing on Octavia, I worked at Apple as a certified FileMaker developer, where I built the system that powered their consumer sales pipeline. One of my proudest moments was developing the app Apple Australia used to manage the operations and logistics for the launch of the very first iPad - a project that won an internal innovation award.

Now I'm bringing that same mix of teacher insight and technical know-how to build software that works the way music teachers actually teach.
